Virtual idol group Sphaze officially resumed their broadcast activities in April 2025, signaling their return after a six-month hiatus. The group quickly re-engaged fans through a string of solo livestreams and cover song releases by individual members, reigniting excitement across their digital platforms.
On April 23, member Minseong kicked off his individual livestream titled “Minseong’s Page” via YouTube, engaging with fans in real-time. A day earlier, Frederic made a long-awaited return through his own livestream, while on April 21, he also showcased his vocal skills and emotional depth by releasing a cover of Zico’s “She’s a Baby.”
Sphaze has been using their official X account and YouTube channel to reconnect with fans, placing a strong emphasis on real-time streaming to deepen emotional engagement. Each member’s effort to express their unique musical identity independently is helping diversify the group’s fanbase and sharpen their overall brand identity.
Debuting on September 30, 2024, Sphaze is a virtual idol group rooted in webtoon characters, blending digital storytelling with K-pop aesthetics. The group name combines “Special Phase” and “Second Phase”, symbolizing a transition from fictional webtoon characters to the main protagonists of a new musical stage.
The five-member lineup consists of Frederic, Nidan, Ma Daehyup, Minseong, and original character Seo Taeil, all of whom bring distinct personalities and stories drawn from popular webtoons on Naver and KakaoPage. This layered background allows for a wide spectrum of creativity and fan engagement.
Sphaze is produced by Ort Entertainment, with M Story Hub managing the IP and Sangsangbang overseeing the technical aspects. Utilizing a hybrid of VR equipment and 2D rendering technology, the project delivers high-quality visual content while keeping the identities of the actual performers anonymous.
Their debut single “Starlight” featured lyrics and composition by Frederic, with Seo Taeil co-writing the lyrics. The B-side track “Cloud 9” was composed by Minseong, with all members contributing to its lyrics. Their debut performance on MBC’s Show! Music Core gained attention for a stunning visual effect that transitioned the members from black-and-white webtoon figures to full-color performers, symbolizing their leap into reality.
The group’s return to broadcasting in 2025 reinforces Sphaze’s identity as more than just a consumable content product, but as a long-term idol project built on a sustainable worldview and devoted fandom. Their recent cover songs and performance content continue to expand their musical spectrum, appealing to both K-pop and subculture fans.
This experimental fusion of webtoon and idol culture has been met with strong positive responses thus far, and Sphaze’s future activities are set to attract even more attention and anticipation.
